Example: Fixing your first Firefox bug

1) Get connected

• IRC

  • #fx-team: for questions about Firefox front-end development
• firefox-dev mailing list

2) Make a build

• Download build prerequisites
• Download the source (using mercurial or git)
• ./mach build
• Ask questions on IRC if you have any trouble along the way!

3) Find a small bug to fix

• Bugzilla
• Find a "good first bug"
• Connect with a mentor

4) Write some code

• Ask your mentor for help
• Try to write a test
• Try not to be overwhelmed by the giant code base!

5) Code review

• Create a patch for review
• Your mentor will help you find the right reviewer
• Code review is scary, but a great way to become a better developer

6) Watch your change get merged!

• In 12-18 weeks, your change will be in the release version of Firefox :)
